What Animal Would I Be?

squirrel.jpg

If I were transformed into a form of nature for a day, I would be a squirrel. I could dig holes and explore what’s under, collect nuts and climb trees to drop them on people, and if people tried to get me, I could run away in a flash!

I could eat berries, and burrow underground if it is winter.

But when the day is done, I want to be a human again!

Word Trade Fun

For Writing today, I got to play with different word choices. It started up with a simple sentence from the book. I had to cross out the two verbs and two nouns and replace them with other words. I read them out loud and combined the words in different ways. I came up with some really silly sentences.

Here are some of them:

  • I skipped to the ice cream parlor and wrecked some eyeballs.
  • I crawled to the Asian market and laughed at some shoes.
  • I pranced to the pie shop and drooled over some bunnies.
  • I stomped to the green house and borrowed some movie tickets.
  • I limped to the farmers’ market and arranged some pies.

I never thought writing could be this much fun!

In The Backyard

Mama was really happy with my nature journal entry today that she published it on her blog. She suggested that I should do the same here.

It is mid-summer. With the blue skies, cool breeze and warm weather, it is a beautiful day. A male robin, perched on one of our deck posts, was gayfully singing its song.

There are not many cars around here right now so it is very quiet. Another robin, who I can tell apart from the others because of a dark patch on its chest, comes here everyday, and sometimes pulls out a worm.

A rabbit, who we call “Megan,” occasionally comes to nibble on some grass. One time, we got a close-up view of her from the playroom window, but I think we scared her. She’ll be back soon.

Hand Me Down Blog

My daughter was looking at her old blog wishing she could update it, but couldn’t anymore. I thought why not just give her this one? She’s a good kid…

From now on this will be Aliyah’s blog.

Moved

I have started a new blog elsewhere and that’s the reason for not updating here.

Five Years Later…

I’ve finally released myself from doing all the year-planning and have decided on purchasing a base curriculum for the fall. All that planning and building didn’t really bother me. In fact, I never wanted a boxed curriculum, and we enjoy the freedom of choosing what to focus on or not, what books to read and what activities to do.

I’ve talked to and read from other homeschool moms whose concern is that they may not be doing enough, and I have asked myself: “Am I so laid back that those things don’t move me at all?” Then I remembered why we homeschool, and that took the doubt away! Besides, I am totally sold on Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education that it never occured to me that we’re missing out on anything, learning-wise. Having Truthquest and an encyclopedia as our history guides, Apologia Elementary as science, and the Bible, helps me with everything else.

But I feel like God is leading me in a different direction this year so I could focus more time on being the facilitator of my children’s education, and less on planning.

After looking at several options, I have decided to go with the one that I have iniatially dismissed a couple of years back: Tapestry of Grace, and now I’m very excited about it! I’ve looked at three options intently. I joined groups/forums and have read much of what other moms have to say about these curriculums and their experiences with them. I’m aware that some users consider TOG intense, and that some, even after using it for more than a year, still feel overwhelmed. I am not concern about that at all. Not that I’m supermom or anything (I’m far from that! Phil. 2:3). We still plan on keeping (most of) our afternoons free for play, activities and nature walks. I just have to remember why I’m going this route, and that is to have something tangible to help me, so that I could focus more on the content of my children’s education (and mine!) and less on the “planning from scratch.”

I believe we are ready for a new season. I am confident I can make this work for us (Matt. 19:26). Have you seen the Year I Redesigned samples? This is what really solidified my decision to go with TOG. I am holding off on the Year 1 purchase since I have a business convention to go to next week, and would like to focus on that first. I will update as soon as I get my hands on it!

once again…

bookworm

When I have this food blog and this homeschooling blog that have been neglected for a long time, and that I honestly don’t intend on updating anytime soon, starting a new one seems odd; but I’d much rather think of it as a fresh start, a new beginning- at least for this season. So hello all.

I’ll save the introduction and all for another post. For now, I just want to once again welcome myself to blogsphere, and you all, to my new thinking space. My life is not that exciting but I could go on and on about it. I’d rather not. There is more to our existence, and it’s refreshing to know that there is Someone bigger than life itself.

Edited: I was getting kinda lonely here so I added pictures of the girls from last year.
